Sand dollars are also called sea cookie and is most closely related to starfish and sea cucumber. Thus it is an animal shelltosea that moves on the seabed using hairy småsmå bone. They usually live in very deep water and therefore it is usually the skeletons of the dead found in shallower water. The symmetrical pattern consists of pores and skeletons, and can have a lot of different colors, though they usually have had time to be bleached white by the sun when they are found dead near the beaches.
Identification of sand dollars have two origins. One is a folk tale that says that actually coin that mermaids lost, and they were very similar, in size and color, the dollar shelltosea coin that was a long time ago. They also found most often in the sand, because they like to bury themselves.
I've got a sand dollar from a friend in the eastern United States. It's beautiful about 14 cm in diameter and feels like porous limestone. Have hung it up on a colored background shelltosea on the wall - it is so decorative! Reply Delete
